James Sugden

Director, Senior Mechanical Engineer

James is a founding Director of Sugden & Gee with over 20 years’ experience as a mechanical engineer. His career has given him exposure to the mining, manufacturing and construction industries, initially as a site engineer and more recently as a consultant and lead designer. During his time as a consulting engineer in Tasmania, James has established himself as a competent and effective designer, project manager and contract superintendent. With a passion for minimising waste and maximising the production of renewable energy and resources, James now has a focus on projects that incorporate these goals.

Phil Gee

Phil is a founding Director of Sugden & Gee with a successful career in marketing, business development, consulting, management and engineering. With over 39 years’ experience, Phil delivers strategic yet practical solutions founded on a deep understanding of issues and a rigorous professional background. In addition to project management and contract administration, Phil specialises in developing and delivering corporate, marketing and communication strategy and has been responsible for identifying, developing and delivering a variety of innovative marketing and business initiatives.

Mark is an experienced engineer and project manager with a successful career in local government engineering, project management, contract administration, infrastructure asset management, leadership and management. Mark delivers both strategic and practical solutions founded on a deep understanding of issues and a rigorous professional background.

Andrew Holmes

Engineer, Project Manager, Graduate Planner

Andrew is a graduate civil engineer (2016) and graduate planner (2019), and has been employed by Sugden & Gee since early 2015. Andrew is a passionate, honest member of the S&G team with a wide skill set in both engineering and planning. Andrew has developed skills in project management, contract administration and asset management and understands the importance of communication and documentation. Andrew has a passion for planning and parking and its impacts and challenges for local government.

Ian Preece

Senior Project Manager

Ian is a senior Project Manager with 30 years of experience in local government spanning several Council. Ian’s career has seen him work in a broad number of roles including civil design; works manager; environmental and sustainability manager; has held a position on the Clarence City Council Corporate Executive.
Ian is a senior project manager with Sugden & Gee where his extensive experience with local government allows him to assist clients to successfully deliver different infrastructure or capital projects. Ian can take control of projects for clients and manage them from inception through to delivery or provide assistance at any stage, whether it be preparing contract documents and calling Tenders at the front end or administering construction contracts at the delivery end.

William Bacon

Senior Project Manager

Will is an experienced engineer and project manager with a successful career in project management, research and development, team leadership and solving complex engineering problems in the petroleum industry internationally. He is successfully transferring his skills from the oil and gas industry as part of Sugden & Gee’s small professional team. Will’s experience includes strategic analysis of complex problems and scenarios to unearth key objectives and opportunities. He has strong technical skills in advanced application of engineering fundamentals and the efficient adoption of new methods, technologies and solutions. Will enjoys working with clients and teams in delivering practical solutions founded on developing deep understanding and insight of client problems.

Lorrienne Lyte

Senior Project Manager

Lorrienne is an experienced engineer and project manager with a successful career in energy, government and consulting.  She has a proven track record in delivering significant projects and programs of work in remote, harsh and unique environments in Australia and Antarctica.   As a Senior Project Manager with Sugden & Gee, Lorrienne is currently leading an integrated project team assisting Tasmanian Irrigation to develop and deliver the South East Integration Project.  Her prior experiences include Engineering Services Supervisor and Deputy Station Leader for the Australian Antarctic Division, where she managed a multi-disciplinary construction team based in Antarctica, engineering and project management of upstream greenfield oil facilities and pipelines, and engineering design for high pressure gas transmission pipelines and pressure reduction facilities.

Nigel Vivian

BE (Hons)

Senior Project Manager

Nigel has over 20 years of experience in consulting, utilities and the government sector.  He has been responsible for the delivery of concept and detailed designs for major projects with values between $1m and $1B which recently include the Tamar combined systems Improvement for TasWater and the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre for Sydney Water.
 
Nigel has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (Civil & Environmental) with a wide skill set in both project planning, project program management and engineering.  He has a collaborative leadership style which enables positive stakeholder engagement and collaborative partnerships focused on successful project delivery.

Solea Chen

Graduate Engineer

Solea graduated with a Master of Professional Engineering (Civil & Structural) from the University of Tasmania, a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Science and Technical of Heilongjiang, an Advanced Diploma in Translating and a Diploma of Leadership and Management.

Solea has worked in construction and retail and is following in the footsteps of her mother who is an engineer in the construction industry. Solea has a keen interest in photography and has a black belt in Taekwondo. She also speaks English as a fourth language after Mandarin, Russian and French!

Evie Clarke

Evie is a project officer and administrative assistant. She graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Social Science, focusing on politics and policy, international relations and sociology, and is currently studying a Master of Urban Planning at University of Technology Sydney. Evie is interested to see how Hobart copes with growth and change and work on projects that contribute to this including the Greater South East Irrigation Scheme with over 400 irrigators and 200KMs of pipeline.

Evie has highly developed communication skills, and an eye for detail, developed through her time working in boarding houses, local government and in retail
