Project Description

The Swanston Bridge project involved the replacement of an existing single lane timber bridge in poor condition on Swanport Road over the Little Swanport River with a concrete bridge. The Swanston Bridge replacement was one 14 bridge replacements undertaken by Sugden & Gee for the Southern Midlands Council. All of these timber bridges had reached the end of the economic life and required replacement to provide safe road river crossings across the municipality.

Sugden & Gee project managed the bridge replacement including hydraulic and geotechnical investigations and site survey, preparation of tender documents, tender assessment and contract administration. The Little Swanport river was subject to significant flooding and the bridge was required to span 45m, provide protection for a 100 yr flood and have an economic life of 100 years. The design and construct contract was successfully delivered by BridgePro Engineering.
